Dixie Crystals: A Family Tradition

Dixie Crystals has always been more than just sugar—it’s a part of family traditions and celebrations. From holiday baking to everyday recipes, Dixie Crystals adds a touch of sweetness that has been passed down through generations, making it a key ingredient in countless cherished memories.

A Legacy of Sweet Beginnings

Founded in 1916 by Benjamin A. Oxnard and Richard H. Sprague, the Savannah Sugar Refining Corporation quickly became a staple in the community. By 1917, the first batch of sugar was refined under the Dixie Crystals brand, marking the start of a legacy built on quality and tradition. Today, under the leadership of William Wallace Sprague Jr., the company continues to thrive.

Community Growth and Expansion

Savannah Sugar Refining Corporation, now Dixie Crystals, was the first large industry in Savannah, has played a vital role in the local economy. Over the years, the company expanded, becoming part of Imperial Sugar Company in 1997. By 2022, it transitioned into a subsidiary of United States Sugar Corporation, now known as United States Sugar Savannah Refinery, LLC.

Trusted by Families Through the Ages

Throughout its history, the company has reached significant milestones, including the production of its first 30,000 pounds of sugar in 1917 and the introduction of 2, 5, and 10-pound bags in 1938. Despite challenges, such as the stock market crash of 1929 and shifts in industry practices, Dixie Crystals remains a trusted name in sugar.
